Parables
for Preachers The parables of Jesus are puzzling sayings and stories
with world-transforming potential. Parables for Preachers, with separate
volumes for the three liturgical cycles, offers an understanding of how
parables work and a fresh variety of possible meanings not only for Jesus'
original audience or even for the early Christians for whom Matthew, Mark,
and Luke wrote but also for contemporary Christians. The purpose behind Reid's work is two-fold. First, to
aid preachers by bringing together current biblical research on the parables
in the hope that it will open up new vistas of meaning and help spark
their creativity. Second, she offers an understanding of how parables
communicate, and invites preachers to try out the parabolic techniques
of preaching. Parables for Preacher is not only for preachers, but for all who are interested in a deeper understanding of parables, particularly teachers, catechists, liturgy planners, and members of groups for homily preparation, Bible study, or faith sharing.

The
best word I can find to describe this book is integration. In these reflections
on the gospel readings for year A, B, and C of the liturgical cycle, Fr.
Pierse integrates the richness of the word of God with experiences and
stories from life in the community. He shows how through silence, the
word can bear fruit in service and sacrament. (R. J. Cardinal
Vidal) |

Reflecting on the authors sermons, you sense how deeply Arevalo has thought about his subjects, and wrestled to make them as clear to himself as to us, the afflicted. It is in the sincere and unstinting effort to bring the light of religion precisely to bear on the particular darkness of our lives that we feel his compassion. From the Foreword by Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. |
This
is a book of hope, encouragement, and empowerment. It is a very touching
book, changing power as well as the courage to live in spite of everything.
Everyone should read this book so that we may all become instruments of
peace in the new millennium to make the world a better place. (Prof.
Tsuyoshi Amemiya) OTHER
