Lenten Reflections
Silence
Monday
5th Week of Lent

Reading: John 8:1-11

Reflection:

Besides paying taxes, there are a few other experiences we have in common. In the search of the truth we will turn to others for answers to our questions, and others will turn to us for answers in their questions. In our zeal to be faithful followers we will become embroiled in their causes.

Today's reading reminds us that it is not necessary to have answers to all questions asked of us; it is not necessary for others to provide answers to all of our questions; it is not necessary for everyone to share in our particular cause; nor it is necessary that we become involved with every cause that comes down the pike, no matter how righteous that cause may appear.

Today's reading reminds us that it is indeed possible to be Christ-like just by being silent. We are also reminded that there may indeed be ways of getting things done besides those we propose to others, or those which others propose to us. It is God who can bring about possibilities of each new day.

Prayer

Almighty One, through your Son, you are present in the world. Help me to trust you so that I may not be overcome by feelings of over-importance. I ask this in the name of Jesus my Lord.

Remembrance

Today I will remember not to take an overly serious approach to myself or the causes of others.
