29th Week in
Ordinary Time
1st
Reading: Rom 5:12, 15, 17-19, 20-21
Gospel: Lk 12:35-38
Jesus said to his
disciples, "Be ready, dressed for service, and keep your lamps
lit, like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding.
As soon as he comes and knocks, they will open to him. Happy are those
servants whom the master finds wide-awake when he comes. Truly, I tell
you, he will put on an apron and have them sit at table and he will
wait on them. Happy are those servants if he finds them awake when he
comes at midnight or daybreak!"

Commentary
"If
death reigned through the disobedience of one and only one person, how
much more will there be a reign of life for those who receive the grace
and the gift of true righteousness through the one person, Jesus Christ."
A theologian has this to say about the "doctrine of original sin."
"Christian realism reminds us of the fact that life is both good
and bad, beautiful and ugly, that the world in which we live is characterized
by grace-sin tension. A more mature understanding of original sin brings
us to the realization that we would be totally subject to the power
of sin and death, if it were not for the liberating, healing grace of
Jesus Christ. Our powerlessness in the face of the forces of evil and
sin should not lead us to despair. Our strength and hope lies in Christ's
redemptive power working through the Holy Spirit in the church, within
each one of us, disciples of Jesus Christ."
