Week of Easter
1st
Reading: Acts 17:15, 22-18:1
Gospel: Jn 16:12-15
Jesus
said to his disciples, "I still have many things to tell you, but
you cannot bear them now. When he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will
guide you into the whole truth.
"He
has nothing to say of himself but he will speak of what he hears, and
he will tell you of the things to come. He will take what is mine and
make it known to you; in doing this, he will glorify me. All that the
Father has is mine; because of this I have just told you, that the Spirit
will take what is mine and make it known to you."
Commentary
Contemplating
creation Ben-Sirach declares, "Let your praise exalt the Lord
he is greater than you could even express
Many mysteries greater
than these still remain, for we have only seen a fraction of his works."
Jesus, the only one who comes from God, has made known the many things,
nay, all things, that have so far remained hidden. Towards the end of
his earthly life he still burned with the desire to make the disciples
understand what he had revealed. But they could only take so much. The
promised Spirit would guide their fragile minds into the heart of all
truth. How much time and effort do we dedicate to listen to the Spirit
in study, prayer, and contemplation? Are interested at all to learn
more about the mysteries now revealed?
