The author's work takes Populorum Progressio's thought and intentions into the new millennium. One might say that we have here a theology of liberation in the "Lonerganian key". An imagination-altering and a mind-changing book and in this sense, a profoundly hopeful one. The

The author points out that great parts of the old Christian world have been changed into real "mission countries", which for the church implies a commitment of a new evangelization. |

Saints have typically been figures from the distant past, canonized for miraculous lives of perfection and self-denial. Ellsberg here redefines this stereotype in this diverse and substantial compendium of the lives of men and women, ancient and contemporary, who gave themselves completely to their vocations. Well-known saints, apostles, and martyrs take their place beside lesser-known figures (the woman with a flow of blood who touched Jesus' hem), theologians and philosophers (e.g., Martin Buber, Simone Weil, Kierkegaard), artists (Van Gogh, Mozart, J.S. Bach), literary figures (Dante, Tolstoy), social reformers (Gandhi, Schweitzer), and numerous others who do not fit into neat categories. A different figure is introduced for each day of the year to coincide with feast days or birth/death dates, and helpful biographical sources are provided. - From Library Journal |

This book introduces the reader to the issues and questions that have given Christology Christian reflection on Jesus' religious significance. The author's skillful presentation will guide and understand both teachers and students through the maze of the present-day approaches to Christology. |

The 486 Catholic Canonized Saints and Blessed of Asia Saints are the best proclaimers of the Gospel as they proclaim Jesus best, because witness of life is the most effective, the most powerful way of preaching Gods Word. Asian Saints is the Gospels best proclaimer for fellow Asians in our time. It has a mission for each of us and we have so much to learn from it. Fr. Catalino G. Arevalo, SJ |

This book explores those indigenous mission initiatives that have ad gentes evangelization as their primary charism. Additional significant mission responses are present on Asia, particularly among Asia's energetic and dedicated laity; religious women have emerged as an evangelizing force in Asia. This book masterfully presented, emerges from an assiduous study of the FABC experience. It captures and expresses the FABC vision, particularly on Kingdom and Mission. Without doubt, this opus flows from the mind and heart of an evangelizer whose life is given completely to mission- in vision of FABC. (James H. Kroeger, mm) Mission. This book presents some reasons and examples on why the Church reformulates its fundamental communitarian reference. The readers find here stories and parables shared with and from the BECs at a popular level. Deep inside there is a new theology of the Christian people and glimpses at the spirituality animating their faith. Also from the same authors: Church From The Roots About

Edited
by: James F. Keenan, S.J.. Thirty-seven internationally known moral theologians show how Roman Catholic moral traditions can mediate the clash of values in HIV prevention and treatment. In the first part of this thought-provoking book, moral theologians address the worldwide AIDS pandemic and illustrate the complexity of HIV prevention and treatment within the context of local issues and cultural concerns in twenty-six cases from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. In the second part, essays by well-known theologians hone in on the fundamental moral issues involved and demonstrate how the Roman Catholic tradition can help in constructively mediating the moral conundrum of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. A
concluding essay by Kevin Kelly focuses on the challenges AIDS presents
to moral theology at the beginning of the new millennium. |

The
authors, probably today's best-known experts on Basic Ecclesial Communities
(BECs), outline the position, formation and development of BECs. This
book is at once a stimulating and challenging sharing of their own experience
and a means of spreading a practical knowledge of BECs to facilitate
and inspire the emergence of such communities not only in Latin America
but also throughout the world. Also from the same authors: BEC: Church in a Small Scale |

Dare
to Struggle, Be Not Afraid
Dr. Anne Harris is a lecturer in Religious Studies at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia. Her interest in this field was ignited by a visit to Chile in 1983-4, where she stayed with Mercy Sisters engaged in a work with the poor and oppressed. Participating in protest actions along with walking with the poor introduced her to Liberation Theology, an interest that became more academic once she returned home. In 1986, she spent five weeks in the Philippines and witnessed the euphoria of the early Aquino days. Perceiving those she met and spent time with as courageous and selfless people, she returned to the Philippines to complete formal research in 1995-6, again in 1998. This led to this book, where she has attempted to put together the diverse pieces of what is essentially a powerful social and religious movement - the theology of struggle. |

One
can assume that these members of the faithful have little knowledge
about the Church's teachings and that they probably have never heard
of Nostra Aetate, let alone understand or subscribe to its teachings.
In fact, even some of our own priests and other pastoral leaders are
not familiar with documents such as Dialogue and Mission or with
the FABC's Theology of Harmony. Hence, we have to admit that
there is indeed a gap between what the FABC and the Church in Asia is
saying about interreligious dialogue and what is actually happening
at the grassroots levels. |
